Localizing the SDGs: Community Perspectives and Knowledge Sharing
July 5, 2024
Building on over thirty years of Campaign 2000’s monitoring of poverty reduction efforts, the Localizing Canada’s Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals project aims at developing local-community based indicators to track federal progress towards Agenda 2030.
Utilizing a community-based research methodology, the project will engage 20 communities impacted by poverty and systemic marginalization to develop a community-driven indicator framework and action plan. Our approach is grounded in an intersectional and rights-based framework that values reciprocity, trust, and power-sharing.
Starting in September 2021, the project will operate over three phases until February 2024, culminating in a mobilization summit in Ottawa alongside advocacy with parliamentary officials.
How should ending poverty be measured? Inclusive, relevant, localized indicators based on community input will be presented in a framework that centers lived experiences of poverty and local visions of ending poverty.
